G1060 ideas for Saint-Gilles

 Municipality of Saint-Gilles

Citizens panel

All citizens of Saint-Gilles  Municipal  hybrid

G1060 Ideas” is a citizen participation project implemented by Particitiz for the municipality of Saint-Gilles, at the initiative of Thierry Van Campenhout, alderman for Participation and Social Cohesion, and with the support of the COCOF.

The objective of “G1060 ideas” is to allow all citizens to share their original and innovative ideas and to think together about the future of Saint-Gilles, thus ensuring the participation of the greatest number in the life of the municipality.

The process of “G1060 ideas” will take place in three complementary phases:

  • From December 8 2017 to February 20 2018, citizens were able to share and debate their ideas on an online platform (G1060idees.be). Goal: 1060 ideas for Saint-Gilles!
  • On February 25, 2018, a panel of about 30 citizens met to debate the ideas posted on G1060idees.be, using collective intelligence techniques. They wrote together a “Citizen’s Pact” (click here to see the document). This document was presented to the municipal authorities and will guide the co-construction and dissemination of ideas and projects emerging from this process. Photos from the day are accessible here.
  • Until June 2018: two groups of randomly selected citizens and political representatives (each group will be made up of four citizens and four communal councillors) will meet as a Working Group in order to deepen the reflection on three major themes and emanating from the February 25 panel, namely:
    • The (re)dynamization of the Midi district
    • The optimization of the roofs of Saint-Gilles (urban vegetable garden, water recovery, energy production, etc.)
    • The identification of new local traditions

Why “G1060” exactly?

This name refers to the “G1000”, the first large-scale participatory and deliberative process to be set up in Belgium, which in 2011 brought together a thousand citizens at Tour & Taxis to deliberate on various major issues of the political news of the time. The G1000 itself bore this title in a nod to the G20, G8 and other “Gs”, these large meetings that bring together different heads of state.

The “1060” in “G1060” refers of course to the postal code of Saint-Gilles.
