WAM1080 - “We are Molenbeek” is a deliberative project of the Commune of Molenbeek, organized by Particitiz, which brought together 100 randomly selected Molenbeek citizens to debate radicalism and bringing communities together in Molenbeek.
On March 18, 2017, more than 100 citizens, drawn by lot, debated for a whole day, in order to formulate proposals to be implemented in the municipality of Molenbeek. These proposals dealt with two central themes:
- the causes of youth radicalism and the way to deal with it,
- the question of connection between the communities in Molenbeek.
In groups of 7 or 8 citizens, assisted by a facilitator and a “harvester” trained in deliberative techniques, the citizens identified two concrete proposals per table and per theme. A total of 56 proposals** were selected and voted on by all the citizens present. The proposals that received the most votes were presented to the municipal authorities at the end of the day.
These proposals were forwarded to the College of Mayors and Aldermen and to the Municipal Council, as well as to the Youth Council of Molenbeek, in order to continue this new form of dialogue between the municipality and its citizens.
The WAM1080 report with all the proposals can be downloaded here.
The scientific evaluation report is available here.
