Brussels Citizens' Jury on Artificial Intelligence

Citizens' Jury

 Citizens  Regional  Face-to-face

Energy is a common resource in high demand. How energy is obtained and distributed could become a crucial issue in the future. Anticipating this potential future, university researchers from the COOMEP project, led by imec-SMIT, VUB, start from the premise that in the future, artificial intelligence could decide who receives energy and in what quantities.

Based on the principle that citizens should always be involved in crucial decisions that affect them closely, imec-SMIT, VUB, and FARI organized a citizen jury. In this jury, 20 Brussels citizens discussed ethical guiding principles – when and how AI should decide how energy will be distributed.

The outcomes of this citizen jury and the proposed guidelines will be used to advance academic knowledge and will be shared with policymakers and the energy professional community.
