“Make your Brussels - Mobility” is a deliberative democracy project initiated by the Brussels Parliament and coordinated by the Parliament services and Particitiz.

A panel of 40 citizens was constituted through a random selection of inhabitants of the Brussels Region. A team of moderators accompanied the participants in their debates. This team was composed of ten young moderators accompanied throughout the process by a bilingual FR/NL professional moderator. The main role of the moderators was to facilitate the exchanges, to ensure balanced speaking time, to identify consensual or original proposals and to centralize them.

The objectives of “Make Your Brussels - Mobility” were multiple:

  • To experiment a citizen deliberation process within the Brussels Parliament.
  • To bring out new ideas.
  • To debate by relying on collective intelligence.
  • Formulate concrete recommendations to be presented in a citizens' resolution to improve mobility in Brussels.

“Make your Brussels - Mobility” was organized with the support of a pluralist scientific committee composed of :

  • Jean-Benoit Pilet - ULB,
  • Didier Caluwaerts - VUB,
  • Ludivine Damay - Université Saint-Louis,
  • Min Reuchamps - UCL,
  • Benoit Derenne - Foundation for future generations,
  • Sébastien Van Drooghenbroeck - Université Saint-Louis.

“Make your Brussels - Mobility” took place during four days spread over three weekends: on Saturday 21 October 2017, Saturday 28 October 2017, Saturday 18 November and Sunday 19 November 2017, at the Brussels Parliament.

The citizens' resolution was debated and adopted in plenary. The parliamentary debate is available at this address.

The parliament forwarded the resolution to the government and asked the government to formally specify which parts of the resolution will be included in the Mobility 2030 Strategic Plan.

The citizens' resolution was adopted unanimously and can be found here.
